Demystifying Mandi Daily Price Sheets

Every morning, Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMC) across Maharashtra publish three distinct price figures: Minimum, Maximum, and Modal.

What is the Modal Price?

  • Minimum Price: The lowest price accepted, usually for damaged, rain-affected, or undersized culls.
  • Maximum Price: The absolute peak bid for an exceptional, boutique auction lot (often representing less than 5% of total arrivals).
  • Modal Price: The price at which the largest physical volume of produce was traded on that auction floor.

Why Modal Price Matters for Farm-Gate Negotiation

When an exporter or wholesale aggregator offers to buy directly from your orchard, comparing their offer against the Modal Price gives an honest benchmark. If your crop meets export grade (size, brix, residue limits), you should command a premium over the domestic modal benchmark.
